Advert for postdoc position at Yale

Postdoctoral Associate Position
Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Yale University

The Earth and Planetary Sciences department at Yale is looking for a post-doctoral researcher in the area of observational seismology. The post-doc will work on a combination of projects aimed at understanding the structure and dynamics of Earth’s mantle, with a focus on developing and applying strategies for imaging seismic anisotropy in the upper mantle via SKS splitting tomography and other methods. The initial appointment would be for one year. Reappointment for a second year is typical, subject to satisfactory progress.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in geophysics or a related field at the time of appointment. Previous experience in any of the following areas is welcome: processing/analysis of broadband seismic data, methods and applications of seismic tomography, imaging of mantle structure, and/or computational seismology and numerical simulations of the seismic wavefield.

For more information or to apply for the position, please contact Prof. Maureen Long (maureen.long@yale.edumailto:maureen.long@yale.edu). To apply, please send a CV (including list of publications), a short (2-3 page) statement of research interests, and the names and contact information of three academic references to maureen.long@yale.edumailto:maureen.long@yale.edu. Review of applications will begin on July 12 and will continue until the position is filled.

The salary for this position will depend on experience but will begin at $54,000 per year, with health care benefits and some support for relocation. The start date is flexible, but January 2022 or earlier is preferred.
