Postdoctoral Researcher, Mantle Processes Group, University of Delaware
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research scientist to join the Mantle Processes Group at the University of Delaware. The postdoc will participate in a project on the relationship between water in olivine and flow in the upper mantle, with a focus on the water content and stress associated with olivine E-type fabric formation. The project will involve experiments on olivine aggregates using a recently updated Griggs-type high-pressure apparatus, combined with microstructural and geochemical analyses of natural and experimental samples. The postdoc will contribute to broadening participation in science through supervision of an undergraduate project and other outreach opportunities.
The position is available for a year, with renewal for one year contingent upon satisfactory performance. The start date for the position can be as early as 3/01/2022, but timing is flexible. The position is based in the Department of Earth Sciences on the Newark campus of the University of Delaware. The applicant will spend approximately 6 months at Brown University to conduct experiments, with further travel for collaboration, data collection, and meetings.
