Re: sign up for field trips at GSA Annual Meeting and before Sept 8 early registration deadline

I should mention that GSA has a very flexible cancellation and refund policy this year: https://community.geosociety.org/gsa2021/registration

Field trips are listed here: https://community.geosociety.org/gsa2021/program/field

Cheers,

Dear colleagues,

It is with regret that we must give early warning of a likely suspension of service of the Virtual Seismic Atlas – the open access resource that shares the geological interpretation of seismic images (www.seismicatlas.org). Due to update-related software incompatibilities, the application behind the VSA may go off-line with no notice. You may already be experiencing a security announcement on the landing page (which can be bypassed by clicking the link at the bottom of the warning).

We know that many colleagues around the world use the VSA for teaching and training purposes. If you wish to use existing VSA content, we encourage you to download it sooner rather than later. But please keep a record of all acknowledgements relating to downloaded material (as per the conditions of use) if you intend to share-on content.

Many thanks to CNOOC and The Geological Society along with individuals who made donations via our JustGiving page (where they are listed), whose generous support has enabled us to keep our 2014 edition of the VSA live up to now. However, the scoping this permitted has revealed that more extensive upgrading is needed in the software component behind the VSA application than was first apparent.

The team are currently repurposing the VSA to face more explicitly the range of seismic applications that will underpin the contribution of the subsurface to the energy transition. These changes will include reaching out to new sponsoring partners to provide the long-term resilience necessary for the VSA to function into the future. Our JustGiving page remains open for individuals who would like to support the VSA as it evolves (https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/UniversityofLeedsVSA).

Best wishes – let’s keep sharing geological interpretations of subsurface geophysical imagery!
